Looks like one singer won’t be enough for the upcoming Boston tour, their first since the death of original vocalist Brad Delp. We’ve already told you that ex-Stryper Michael Sweet would be on board, but Tom Scholz (who is Boston, for all intents and purposes), will also bring along Tommy DeCarlo, a fortysomething Home Depot credit manager and father of two. DeCarlo posted a tribute to Delp, ” A Man He’ll Always Be,” on his MySpace page, along with several Boston covers. And Scholz heard.
It’s hard to make much of a comment on the tribute to the victims of the fire at the Station nightclub that aired on VH1 and VH1 Classic over the weekend. It was incredibly depressing; the guy from Tesla was having a rough night voice-wise; “To Be With You” is still a pretty great song. It was largely what you probably expected. However, the highlight for me was seeing the members of Stryper performing with Tom Scholz and Gary Pihl on “Piece Of Mind.” Of course, much to the chagrin of at least one commenter, that means it’s time for a pile of Stryper videos from YouTube!
A moment of sincerity: VH1 Classic is showing AFTERMATH: The Station Fire Five Years Later this Sunday night. More »
Michael Sweet, frontman for heartwarming Christian cornballs Stryper, has “joined forces with a company that will soon revolutionize the music business” in a unique way of getting out of debt. “SongVest is the name of the company and they are launching an auction where a Stryper fan can purchase a portion of the songwriter’s share of Stryper songs. You will, in effect, own my music with me.” A quck visit to SongVest’s Web site gave us a glimpse into a future where strapped singers and broke bands will happily treat their art like eBay merchandise, provided it takes care of those child-support payments and student loans.
