Woody Harrelson first hosted Saturday Night Live in 1989, during the sketch comedy show’s second stint led by original director Dave Wilson. (David Byrne was the musical guest.) So to celebrate his return, the actor rewrote Taylor Swift‘s “Blank Space” to prove that he remembers more of 1989 than the pop superstar ever could, despite her new album title. Bless him, he tried: “Thought I met Margaret Thatcher / but it was Saddam Hussein / Then I got a blank space, baby / ’cause I used to do cocaine.”
Harrelson then brought out fellow castmates from the Hunger Games franchise (the latest of that series, Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1, hits theaters November 21), though they weren’t much help to him. Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth weren’t born yet. Plus, despite what the Cheers goofball thought, the woman who joined them on stage wasn’t Taylor Swift, but Jennifer Lawrence. More »

:: Taylor Swift recently gave a politically-correct answer explaining why she removed her albums from Spotify, but now the real information has come forward. According to her label, the singer only earned an approximate $500K — much less than the yearly $6 million that artists of her high ranking usually make. Her label CEO Scott Borchetta explained: “The facts show that the music industry was much better off before Spotify hit these shores. Don’t forget this is for the most successful artist in music today. What about the rest of the artists out there struggling to make a career? Over the last year, what Spotify has paid is the equivalent of less than 50,000 albums sold.” [Spin]

Taylor Swift has essentially taken over the world, so it should come as no surprise that the 1989 singer-songstress is staring out at us on the cover of TIME this week.
In the accompanying interview, the always well-spoken Swif tackles a bunch of subjects that her name’s been attached to in the headlines as of late, including her recent catalog pull-out from Spotify. “I tried it and I didn’t like the way it felt. I think there should be an inherent value placed on art,” she says.
She also discusses the difficulty of being a women in music (“I have female role models. I just struggle to find a woman in music who hasn’t been completely picked apart by the media”), and what she considers to be “a feminist issue” in regards to the perception of her songwriting skills, defending some fellow female pop stars along the way. “It’s a little discouraging that females have to work so much harder to prove that they do their own things. I see Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea having to prove that they write their own raps or their own lyrics, and it makes me sad, because they shouldn’t have to justify it,” she explained. More »
Well, Diplo and Lorde aren’t playing nice together! The two entertainers got into an exchange on Twitter yesterday (November 12), which began with the producer mocking Taylor Swift‘s lack of a derriere. Diplo tweeted a Kickstarter link with the caption, “Get Taylor Swift A Booty.”
Lorde, who is Swift’s friend, jumped to her defense and retorted with: “@diplo should we do something about your tiny penis while we’re at it hm.” Yikes! Yet when thinking about it, this all comes as a surprise. Diplo recently collaborated with Ariana Grande for their song on the Hunger Games: Mockingjay soundtrack, which the “Yellow Flicker Beat” chanteuse has curated. Also, he recently remixed the singer’s “Tennis Court” track.
So who knows? The joke may be on us. But if not, burn! View their tweet exchanges after the jump. More »
C’mon. Is anyone surprised?
Taylor Swift‘s enormously popular 1989 has easily notched its second week at #1 atop the Billboard 200, selling over 402,000 copies this week. Conveniently, that also happens to be the second-biggest week for an album in 2014, bringing the total tally up to 1.69 million copies. Taylor slays again!
And she’s not the only one who’s shaking her way on top of the charts.
The Divine Miss M herself, Bette Midler, happily twirls into the #3 spot this week with 40,000 copies sold which is, according to Billboard, her highest debut ever. Incredible! Similarly, Calvin Harris‘ EDM-splosion, Motion, smashes in at #5, marking the superstar DJ-producer’s first-ever Top 10 album. Congratulations to all! Tuesday brought another night of exciting live performances on The Voice. After Monday’s showcase of veterans Blake Shelton and Adam Levine’s teams, newbies Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams were up to make their first marks of the Live Rounds. The two take very different approaches: Gwen professes her love to just about every one of her contestants, and Pharrell produces the hell out of every one of his. To each his own.
Before they can get to these stripped down performances, however, Pharrell opens up the show with a not-so-basic performance of “Hunter.” There are plenty of backup dancers on hand to support him, and a section of models in sunglasses watching on in what appears to be white bathrobes. Such is the way with the mega producer.
Pharrell is a tough act to follow, but the show must go on. Here are Team Gwen and Team Pharrell’s 10 live performances. More »

Taylor Swift is typically known for her bubblegum-sweet style, but since the released of her 1989 album the singer is trying out an edgier persona (watch the “Blank Space” video to see for yourself!). The starlet’s latest quirky venture is her stripped down style on the new cover of Wonderland magazine.
Swift is shown on the November/December issue with minimal makeup, bushy eyebrows that highlight her baby blues and greasy slicked-back hair. The combination sounds odd at first, but she makes it work somehow — and the result is stunning! It’s refreshing to see her without her too-perfect curls and red lipstick for a change. You can pick up the Wonderland magazine issue on Thursday, November 13.
