Were you getting worried that Taylor Swift
would never, ever be getting back on stage at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards? Stay fearless, Swifties — she’s coming back for more.
The Red singer-songstress revealed that she’ll be performing at the 2014 MTV VMAs during an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night. “We’re planning it,” she explained.
She also (painstakingly) danced around the subject of her mystery Yahoo livestream on August 18 at 5 PM. “In general, like, you could stream anything these days,” she shrugged as Fallon desperately begged her to reveal what she was planning to do. “There could be one announcement. There could be multiple announcements.” Oh, Tay Tay! You’re such a tease! More »
So, do you remember when Taylor Swift
started mashing buttons on an elevator on her Instagram teasing something “18″-related
, and we were all like…wait, what?
The mystery’s finally been revealed (well, sort of): Princess Tay Tay is going to be holding a livestream for fans hosted at Yahoo! on August 18.
Earlier today, the country-pop darling revealed the news on her official website, with a countdown ticking down to the event happening at 5 PM EST/2 PM PST on August 18. There’s still not much known, but a contest page for a chance to be in the NYC studio audience reveals that she’s got a special announcement to make.
“Taylor Swift has exciting news to share on August 18th at a once in a lifetime event that will be streamed LIVE Worldwide on Yahoo and we are looking for some of her biggest fans to join her!” the entry page reveals. What do you think it is? More »
plays a minor role in The Giver
, the forthcoming film adaptation of Lois Lowry‘s 1993 novel — and until now, only seconds of her cameo have been shown. A new clip (premiered by Yahoo!) reveals that Swift’s small role as Rosemary is also pivotal.
Rosemary sits at the piano next to Jeff Bridges as the titular role, showing him how to play a song (while appearing in hologram form). Meanwhile, the real-life Giver starts explaining to his protege Jonas (Brenton Thwaites) exactly who she is and why she matters. More »
The time has come: Taylor Swift
is ready to return with new music. (It seems, anyway.)
We already know that the Red country-pop diva is plotting to return to the stage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival at the end of September. We know she’s been working with “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” hit-maker Max Martin again on “most of” her new record, and we already know that the record is already her “favorite thing.”
And now, the first hint at what could be the beginning of a new era starts with a mysterious Instagram clue posted earlier this afternoon, in which the “Love Story” songstress repeatedly pushes the “18″ floor button in an elevator. More »

Happy Friday, Idolator Readers! Are you ready for a roundup of this week’s news in the pop world? Ready, steady, go.
Things are especially looking good for Sia and Canadian fusion band MAGIC! this week, as the Aussie songstress’ 6th studio album, 1000 Forms Of Fear, hit the cozy number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart and MAGIC’s “Rude” officially bumped Iggy Azalea’s summer hit “Fancy” out of the leading position on the Hot 100. As if that wasn’t enough, pop heiress Paris Hilton premiered her glamorous video for her latest sparkly single “Come Alive” and New Zealand siblings Broods dropped their clip for ethereal number, “Mother & Father.” Plus, the MTV 2014 VMA nominations were announced, leading to plenty of debate and outcry (as always).
What’s more, Toronto’s own Drake revealed the title of his upcoming new album Views From The 6, while the “Bump N’ Grind” master R Kelly surprised everyone when he announced that he is working on a House record. (!) And last but certainly not least, X Factor alums Fifth Harmony visited our studio for an exclusive acoustic performance of their infectious new single. “BO$$” here on Idolator — and MAGIC! delivered a very special acoustic performance of “Rude” for us too!
As per usual, we could always count on you guys for having plenty to say. Here are some of this week’s best comments after the jump. More »
is real — you know, like the King Of Pop. Lady Gaga
and Katy Perry
? They just make disposable garbage. Or at least so muses fun.
guitarist Jack Antonoff
, with which he took part in an interview to promote his new album Strange Desire
with side project Bleachers
Antonoff puts it this way to the men’s publication: “Taylor Swift is cool, because she’s the closest thing today that hearkens to Michael Jackson — to great, great pop music. There’s a difference between her and Gaga and Katy Perry and Lily Allen and all that. It all feels throwaway, comparatively.”
Interestingly, this very sentiment — the lack of real depth and overall superficiality in pop — is something Lily Allen herself explored recently with her own song “Hard Out Here” and its accompanying music video. Maybe Jack Antonoff didn’t catch that one? More »
are already well on their way to enjoying a major second half of 2014, thanks to the slow-burning success of their Native
re-issue single, “Love Runs Out.”
Up next for the Ryan Tedder
-fronted troupe? “Ordinary Human,” a contribution to the soundtrack of The Giver
, in which country-pop darling Taylor Swift
is set to appear.
The moody, anthemic track is featured in a trailer for the film, which just premiered yesterday. “I’m just an ordinary human with ordinary ways/I’m just an ordinary human…I don’t feel so ordinary today,” Tedder coos across the atmospheric chorus, punctuated by dialogue from the movie — and a brief glimpse of Tay Tay in action.
We already caught a first look at the “Love Story” sweetheart in the black-and-white promo poster, but this is your chance to check out Taylor flaunting her acting chops — briefly, at least. (Zoom to the 1:12 mark below to catch her blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance.)
Watch the teaser trailer after the jump, and let us know what you think of the song (and Taylor’s appearance!) in the comments below. More »
