We love The Jane Doze
and we love Betty Who
, so when those two fun, upbeat entities collide, you know it’s bound to be a good thing for everyone within earshot. The DJ/production pair have taken Betty Who’s breakout single “Somebody Loves You”
and given it a mash-up makeover by incorporating Audien
‘s 2013 club anthem “Wayfarer” into the mix. The result is tour de dance that should easily warm up your chilly Friday and rid you of the winter blues…at least for five minutes and 45 seconds.

What happens when you let NYC DJ set The Jane Doze
run wild all over “Bad Bitches,” the new single from rising girl group YLA?
A whole lot
Yep, the hotly tipped production duo (who recently unveiled an official remix of Britney Spears‘ “Work Bitch,” NBD) put their signature dark-electro spin on YLA’s latest single, which follows up their Spring Breakers-centric Vanessa Hudgens collab “$$$ex,” But better still than the wobbly, trapped-out vibe of their mix is the supercut video they put together in service of the track, which splices together footage from about a million different videos and gifs of women at their best (and baddest), from Madonna to Cassie to their pal (and ours!) Betty Who, as well as YLA and the Doze ladies themselves.
‘ “Work Bitch”
is just the latest uptempo cut in a long line of monster singles from the pop legend, but for those fans craving something a little darker, Godney won’t let you down: The songbird entrusted New York-based DJ duo The Jane Doze
with turning out an official remix of the track that takes it to dizzying new heights (or depths).
Trappy, glitchy instrumentation, distorted vocals and even the ominous cocking of a gun (blast ya, indeed) transform Spears’ pristine electro cut into something better suited for a grimy basement club than an Ibiza rave-a-thon; it’s thrillingly squalling and wobbly, positively Blackout-esque (and that’s saying something).
It’s been awhile since we checked up on The Jane Doze
, the brilliant DJ duo who rocked our Pray For Pop showcase
at last year’s SXSW, but the New York-based set have been busy as ever churning out epic dance-pop remixes of your favorite songs — including cutting an official remix of Swedish trio NONONO
‘s ubiquitous-and-rising single “Pumpin’ Blood,” which I spotlighted in Pop Goes The World
way back in May.
Now signed to Warner Brothers in the United States, NONONO’s “Blood” has provided a soundtrack for a string of high-profile commercials; it’s one of those songs you’re hearing everywhere. If there’s any justice, Doze’s epic remix — which transforms the quirky, twee original into a major pop banger with a big dance break — will be equally popular. More »
We’re almost fully recovered from the marathon that is SXSW 2012
. But before we pack away our cowboy boots until next March, we’d like to take a moment to thank everyone who Prayed For Pop
along with us in Austin and all over the word — especially, the fans who entered our postcard contest
. Check out the handwritten personal notes from Cher Lloyd, Wallpaper., Penguin Prison and The Jane Doze below, before we dropped them in the mail. Their sentiments are the same as ours: Wish you could have been there with us! Thanks again to everyone who entered, and we hope to see y’all deep in the heart of Texas next year! More »
A mass of pop’s most faithful gathered late last night at the PureVolume House in Austin to Pray For Pop
along with us at our annual South By Southwest showcase. Dynamic DJ duo The Jane Doze started off by filling the dancefloor with their clever mixes and mashups, and then British sensation Cher Lloyd took the stage to rock her first-ever live US performance — and an incredibly cheeky one at that. Our recent Popping Up
artist Penguin Prison kept the party in full swing, and Cali natives Wallpaper. turned blew the roof off with their energetic set. Check out all the highlights from deep in the heart of Texas, and don’t miss our Pray For Pop recap
with video of Cher’s set.
Though the doors to Idolator’s South By Southwest Pray For Pop party
at the PureVolume House in Austin didn’t open until midnight last night, getting a good night’s sleep was the farthest thing from the minds of the stretched line of music fans waiting to get in. The eager crowd was first greeted by Robyn and Rihanna remixes being spun by irresistibly cute New York DJ duo The Jane Doze
, who got the night warmed up ahead of the very first US performance by UK pop singer Cher Lloyd
, and sets by Penguin Prison
With Austin’s annual South By Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival just around the corner, we thought we would help you streamline your hectic concert-going schedule by selecting our 11 must-see acts. The event transforms Texas into a week-long mecca for indie bands and alt-rockers, but there is no shortage of expert pop practitioners in the bumper lineup. From enigmatic ’90s singer-songwriter Fiona Apple to the groove-smothered, synthy hip-hop leanings of Penguin Prison, there is something for everyone this year. Make sure you drop by our second annual Pray For Pop party on March 14, where a number of these not-to-be-missed acts will be working their musical magic on stage.
