The Raincoats Documentary Is Probably Going To Be Great

One of my favorite post-punk acts is the chaotic, beautiful British act The Raincoats, whose unison singing and eye-opening violin parts came together to create some music that, not to hyperbolize, really changed the way I listened to and appreciated music. (In case you’re unfamiliar, “Fairytale In The Supermarket” is above; the harmonic-heavy “In Love” is absolutely stunning; and they also threw down a gender-bending cover of the Kinks’ already pretty malleable “Lola”.) Anyway, Raincoats member Gina Birch has been working on a documentary about the band’s history, and I’m looking forward to it a lot—not only does it seem like it’ll have performance footage from the Raincoats’ earliest days, I’m curious to see documentary footage of their Kurt Cobain-sparked resurgence / reunion in the ’90s.
