blink.jpegThree years ago today Blink 182 officially announced their indefinite hiatus, thus ending a golden era of genuinely fun pop music. Commercial rock has been tragically devoid of dick jokes and scatological humor since their departure, and the new wave of punky pop bands (aka emo aka Those Dudes) just doesn’t have the same kind of sarcastic swagger that Blink 182 possessed in such abundance. They were by no means great musicians, but if you were 13 years old in 2000 and too misanthropic for boy bands, yet still immature enough to enjoy sodomy jokes, they were pitch perfect. Let’s examine some of their finer moments.

Help Decide Which TV Theme Song Travis Barker Should Drum Along With Next

So a few minutes ago, Maura IM’d me this promo clip of serial viral video cover artist/former Blink 182 skinsman Travis Barker laying down a new beat for the heraldic NFL On Fox theme song, following similar “remixes” he’s recorded for Soulja Boy’s “Crank That” and Flo-rida’s “Low.” “Wow,” I thought. “Is there anything Barker can’t enliven with that sweet, hollow snare sound?” Well, yes. Probably. I did spend five futile minutes trying to figure out what he could add to the jazzy theme from popular sitcom Family Matters, but even if Barker can’t help Carl Winslow and family kick out the jams, the TV-addicted Idolator braintrust did come up with seven famous theme songs that we thought Trav might be able to bring into the 21st century. Our suggestions are after the jump, complete with memory-jogging YouTube reminders, just in case you’ve forgotten about the bad-assery that is Lorenzo Lamas.

travis_barker300.jpgEver since reaching the end-all, be-all creative apex that was Blink 182, Travis Barker has wandered aimlessly through Garnier Fructis commercials and short-lived MTV reality shows. But now it seems he’s found his niche: drumming furiously over vapid pop-rap while stationed in his walk-in closet. At the height of the Soulja Boy “Crank That” frenzy Barker pounded out his own shirtless rendition, and now he’s at it again, this time with Flo Rida’s T-Pain-assisted ode to gifted club girls, “Low.”
