Today Is Your Last Day To Prove That You Really, Really Love Lou Reed

It's been a long couple of weeks for Warren Hill, the Montreal man who discovered a rare Velvet Underground acetate at a New York City flea market in 2002. After selling the disc for $155,401—not a bad deal, considering he bought it for 75 cents—he discovered the buyer was a fraud. More »

Lou Reed Frantically Trying To Set Up PayPal Account

Earlier this month, we mentioned a rare Velvet Underground acetate—purchased for 75 cents at a Manhattan flea market—that was going up on eBay; the auction ended Friday night, and the record went for a whopping $155,401 (that's nearly twice Lou Reed's annual scowl-maintenance budget). The winning bidder is someone named "mechadaddy," and according to our well-placed sources, he/she is an "excellent eBayer!!!!!!!!" who has sold tickets and SuperDiscs on the site. If you have any info as to the buyer's identity (even though we still think it's Lou), drop us a line at tips@idolator.com. More »

liner notes

Liner Notes: Moe Tucker Commands Mo' Money

- Remember that super-rare Velvet Underground acetate we told you about last week? The bidding has now hit the six-figure mark. We look forward to the Rolling Stone blog reporting this, and then not giving us any credit. [eBay]
- After parting ways with Rick Rubin, Velvet Revolver has hired Brendan O'Brien to produce the band's next album, tentatively titled If You Close Your Eyes And Drink A Bit Beforehand, It Kinda Sounds Like The Real Deal. [Billboard]
- The next time some snobby Anglophile friend rants about the superiority of the U.K. music scene, gently remind him that it's 2006, and those wanks are still listening to Take That. [NME]
