Let's All Take A Deep Breath, And Dare To Be Stupid

Holy crap! In all of this week's arguments and snark and craziness I forgot to make the most important post of all—Alfred Matthew Yankovic turned a ripe ol' 48 yesterday! Like many boys and girls my age who grew up into music geeks, Al was my first musical crush, and earlier this year he put one of the most entertaining (if exhausting) live shows I've seen in years. That's more than 20 years of Al In My Life. Happy belated b-day, dude. Never stop recycling those Al TV clips for laffs.

Weird Al Yankovic - "Dare To Be Stupid" [YouTube]

"Weird Al" Has Got The Charts On Lockdown Granted, it's only the iTunes "Comedy" section charts, but still: When it comes to satisfying the "10-year-old kids who want to hear butter-churning raps" demo, the man can't be stopped.

Idolator's "Weird Al" Contest: Hot Dog! We Have A Weiner!

Last week, we challenged you to predict the future of "Weird Al" Yankovic's musical legacy: What song, we asked, do you think he'll tackle next? We received a great many submissions, and an even greater number of so-so fart jokes. But we're happy to announce that Shauna Crawford of Seattle, Wa. will receive a free copy of Al's Straight Outta Lynwood, thanks to her winning submission, "Dexy Back": More »

America's love affair with "Weird Al" Yankovic is now officially reignited: His Straight Outta Lynwood has inspired blogopshere affection and YouTube tributes, and it's a solid contender for next week's Top 20 album chart. Track Marks: How "Weird Al" Yankovic Became This Week's Biggest Artist In The World

Normally, we'd use this space to talk about the rise in buzz for artists on the verge. But this week, we're going to take a look at polka-happy parodist "Weird Al" Yankovic, who became the most downloaded man of the week with his Chamillionaire-biting ode to pocket-protected Segway riders, "White and Nerdy." Polka Faced: The Second Greatest "Weird Al" Video Of The Day

There's a new album from accordion-wielding pop parodist "Weird Al" Yankovic on the way, and it includes yet another polka medley of the last year's biggest hits (talk about white and nerdy). An apparently fan-made video for "Polkarama"—which manages to mash together Modest Mouse, the Black Eyed Peas, the Pussycat Dolls, and oom-pa-pas—has surfaced, and it has a simple, yet hilarious, conceit. Be sure to watch it the whole way through; the 50 Cent "cameo" made us giggle in a way that we hadn't since we first heard "Eat It." More »

New Weird Al: "Don't Download This Song"

Don't deny your love of Alfred Matthew Yankovic, the man who takes third-grade, Mad-level humor and spins it into such musical-comedy gold as "Like A Surgeon," "Eat It" and the Coolio-irking "Gangsta's Paradise." His new album, Sraight Outta Lynwood, is out at the end of September, and after Al's recent James Blunt dust-up, it could be his biggest album since Poodle Hat (and even if it's not, it will certainly be funnier than any of David Cross' records). His MySpace page today started streaming "Don't Download This Song," a "We Are The World" send-up that calls out the RIAA, Lars Ulrich and Tommy Shaw. It's fun, but we're holding out for the Chamillionaire spoof "White & Nerdy." More »
