The Great New York Arcade Fire Sale: So Much For Those Sob Stories

The above note is from the Web site for Bowery Presents, which is putting on the run of New York City Arcade Fire shows that sold out in a blink this morning. Whether all of those saddoes who are pouring out their lives on Craigslist feel kinda dumb now, we don't know, although we do know that there are still some people out there who are hoping to prey on the desperate, naive, and "hot." (Would a "Wake Up" joke be too much here? Probably.)

  • "Copies of ID, Credit Card, or Confirmation email WILL NOT be accepted for entry."

I don't know how you're supposed to bring anything other than a copy of the confirmation email. Will they have laptops at the door so you can log into your email account?

"Only complete parties will be admitted."

I realize that this system is intended to defeat scalping, but it really screws you is your buddy is running a bit late or the guy who bought the tickets ends up not being able to go. This is a fucking rock show (of sorts, I don't think the Arcade Fire do much rocking), not dinner at Charlie Trotter's.

  • Tom Waits did basically the same thing on his latest tour. It's mildly inconvenient, but, well, I have a lot of sympathy for those that are trying to get tickets to fans rather than letting the scalpers have their day.

As to: "I don't think the Arcade Fire do much rocking." ... Well, I've seen them twice and can only name a handful of shows I've enjoyed as much, and none I've enjoyed more.

Few things blow the roof of a place like all 10-12 of them tearing into Wake Up at the start of a show.

Sadly, the runs of church shows aren't anywhere near me. I have to wait (impatiently) for a proper tour.

  • PengIn, I presume they mean that the purchaser of the tickets must present his or her photo ID, and not a photocopy of it. As for the restriction concerning complete parties, I presume they mean that no one who claims that he or she is with someone who was already admitted into the church will be allowed in. Therefore, I presume that someone who purchased a pair of tickets (and has an acceptable photo ID) may go in alone.
