The Vault: Idolator Goes 'Down With The Ship' Once Again

scatterbrain.jpgThe news that Ludichrist and Scatterbrain, two NYC metal bands that shared a few members, were reuniting crossed our inbox this morning, and caused us to pull out our copy of Scatterbrain's 1990 full-length, Here Comes Trouble. While Scatterbrain may best be remembered for the doo-woppy freak-out "Don't Call Me Dude," we'd geek out over "Down With the Ship (Slight Return)," a Ludichrist remake that plugged famous riffs in between each of its verses ... not that we can name them all, even after all these years and record purchases.

  • Hahaha, you people are digging through my own past somehow, I swear. And doing so v. well.

"I'M NOT GOING -- DOWN WITH THE SHIP!"

(I got about 1/2 the riffs at the time; the Yes part was the one I kept consistently blanking out on for years.)

  • I really miss Scatterbrain's interpretations of Bach and Beethoven sonatas. Particularly, "Sonata #3" as appeared on Here Comes Trouble. Anybody have that one?

  • Paul D, Indeed, I have that one! Scatterbrain was truely iconic. They were playing the metal clubs along the same trail as Death and Prong back in the day. It was nice to see a lead singer that 'dressed' like a mental patient instead of behaving like one. The bunny slippers were the coup d' gras. "milk and blood. Blood and milk..."

  • Ah, what the heck. Here you go. Is this record even in print anymore?

  • The riffs, in order:

Voodoo Child (Slight Return) - Jimi Hendrix
Rock & Roll - Led Zeppelin
Dazed and Confused - Led Zeppelin
    ??? (metal riff, I can't remember)
La Grange (drum fill) - ZZ Top
Bring It On Home - Led Zeppelin
    The Ocean - Led Zeppelin
    Walk This Way- Aerosmith
    Heartbreaker - Led Zeppelin
In The Air Tonight (drum fill) - Phil Collins
    Roundabout - Yes
    Roadhouse Blues - The Doors
Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love - Van Halen
??? (drum fill, I have no idea)
    Star Spangled Banner
    Woody Woodpecker Theme

  • "??? metal riff" is a Metallica song, an older one. can't remember the title.

Not sure I agree with "La Grange (drum fill)" and "Bring It On Home". I think the former is just a random drum fill and the latter is Billy Squier or something. I keep hearing the lyrics "Lonely is the night / When you find yourself alone" etc. in my head when that riff comes in.

    meh.

    Thanks for the list though.

  • Thanks for Sonata #3!!!

I will be a-headbangin' in my office today!
