Track Marks: How Plastic Little Became This Week's Biggest Band In The World

plasticlittle05.jpgWelcome to another edition of Track Marks, where your Idolators perform an autopsy on the latest MP3-blog sensation.

Artist: Plastic Little
Hometown: Philadelphia
Album: She's Mature, out this week
First blog mention: A June 28, 2005 mention on 20 Jazz Funk Greats.
The Build-Up: Over the summer, this gonzo hip-hop combo's "The Jump Off"—and its Diplo-produced remix—started to gain traction on the blogs, including Music (for Robots), So Much Silence, and Analog Giant.
The Dam-Break: Well, it hasn't quite happened yet. But yesterday, Gorilla vs. Bear posted "Crambodia," which features a cameo from Ghostface. And considering that anything Ghostface-related tends to ping around the blogosphere, we predict it will be on the Hype Machine's Top 25 by the end of the week.
Odds of Backlash: Even. They're a tongue-in-cheek rap group that employs several honkies. Do you think anyone's going to take them seriously?
Are They Worthy?: Yep. Anybody who hears "The Jump Off" and "Crambodia" will be hard-pressed to argue that these guys are a mere novelty act. Plastic Little may be winking so hard that their eyes are glued shut—and we're wary of them turning into 2 Skinnee J's—but we'll take their goofy rap over 75 percent of the "real" rap out there nowadays.
