Turn It Up! Lizzo & Missy Elliott’s “Tempo” Is A Ferocious Banger

At this point, it seems physically impossible for Lizzo to release a bad song. The 30-year-old moves from hit to hit with incredible ease and is poised for breakout success with the forthcoming release of her new album Cuz I Love You. We’ve already heard a handful of songs off the tracklist including the roaring title track and mega-infectious “Juice.” Today (March 20), we were treated to yet another taste of the LP when the hitmaker dropped her Missy Elliott-assisted “Tempo.” By now, you should hardly be surprised to learn that it is an unrepentant banger. On it, the duo drop some self-assured lyrics over a seriously ferocious and twerkable beat.

“Slow songs, they for skinny hoes. Can’t move all of this here to one of those,” Lizzo chants on the chorus. “I’m a thick bitch, I need tempo. Fuck it up to the tempo.” Missy’s verse is equally fierce. “Let’s go. Let’s go. All the fly girls head to the dance floor. Kitty cat, kitty cat, prr. All the thick girls down on the floor,” she raps. Rest assured that I’ll be playing this on repeat until the rest of the album drops April 19. The Allure cover girl opened up about how the track came together in an interview with Travis Mills for Beats 1 last month. “This new one I heard it, and it was so obviously Missy,” she explained. “I was like I hope she blesses me with a verse.”
