Idolator's editors choose the 10 best albums of the year.

If last week’s Grammy nominations rollout didn’t quite herald the onset of award season for you, we now have the 72nd Golden Globe nominations, which should do the trick. Leading the pack overall is Michael Keaton comeback film Birdman, which grabbed a total of seven nods. After that, Richard Linklater‘s Boyhood and The Imitation Game, about Enigma Code cracker Alan Turing, are up for five awards each.

As far as music goes, Lana Del Rey‘s “Big Eyes,” from the Tim Burton film of the same name, will compete for Best Original Song – Motion Picture with Sia‘s “Opportunity” (Annie), John Legend‘s “Glory” (Selma), Lorde‘s “Yellow Flicker Beat” (The Hunger Games — Mockingjay, Part 1) and Patti Smith‘s “Mercy Is” (Noah).

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor once again landed a Best Original Score nomination, this time for his work with Atticus Ross on Gone Girl. Other composers recognized in the category: Alexandre Desplat (The Imitation Game), Johann Johannsson (The Theory Of Everything), Antonio Sanchez (Birdman) and Hans Zimmer (Interstellar).

The Golden Globe Awards will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for the third time, and are set to air on NBC on Sunday, January 11, 2015.
