You’ve already read the Rolling Stone thumbs-down, but more reviews of the Killers’ Sam’s Club album came out over the weekend, and even the positive ones sound skeptical:

– “Like true children of Vegas, the Killers create a simulacrum of an important album, swiping desert rain, Main Streets, devil water and unflattering mustaches from older heroes, but taking no meaning or inspiration from them.” [NY Times] – “For all their smart new ways, The Killers are still as flashy, unintentionally funny, and flagrantly affected as ever – and this time we wouldn’t even pretend to have it any other way.” [NME] – “Whatever the idiom and whomever they’re borrowing from, the Killers know only one kind of song… Sam’s Town is basically Hot Fuss with bigger, spanglier guitars and an all-round lack of restraint.” [Spin] – “The MySpace generation has found its Bon Jovi. Grade: C” [Entertainment Weekly] – “My favorite track on the album, since day one, was “Bling”. I used to walk around singing the words to myself after hearing them at work. When Island had the listening party, Brandon managed to remember the song well enough to play some of it for me at home whenever he wanted to see me glow with happiness.” [Ultragrrrl]
