For years, former Beatles producer George Martin has been trusted with refurbishing the Fab Four’s catalog, with oft-disastrous results; anyone who heard 1998’s celeb-studded “tribute” album In My Life has surely not forgotten the garishness of Jim Carrey singing “I Am The Walrus.” And even though we’d long hoped to avoid his latest project–the Cirque du Soleil shit-show known as LOVE–apparently we have no choice, as a soundtrack is being released next month:

Using the master tapes at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios, Sir George and [his son] Giles have created a unique soundscape. The release of this album, which is also featured in the Cirque Du Soleil/Beatles collaborative production of the same name at the Mirage in Las Vegas, has been much anticipated.

“This music was designed for the LOVE show in Las Vegas but in doing so we’ve created a new Beatles album” said Sir George. “The Beatles always looked for other ways of expressing themselves and this is another step forward for them.”

Yes, they sure love those new ways of expressing themselves, which is why they cease-and-desist Beatles samplers out of existence. Anyway, George, we’re thinking it’s time to quit. You’ve got knighthood and the respect of millions of music lovers (including ourselves), and someday you’ll be immortalized in a biopic starring Bill Nighy. And besides, didn’t you admit ten years ago that you were going deaf? So what’s with this “unique soundscape” nonsese? If this doesn’t stop, we’re going to have to change the locks at Abbey Road. And you saw what that did to Starsailor!
