The London-based label Soul Jazz absolutely refuses to stop; it unearths killer songs and turns them into records that are curated like museum works, complete with comprehensive liner notes. Last year, Soul Jazz put out Chicago Soul, which collects and gives the history behind some of that city’s best soul sounds from the ’60s; two of its tracks–including one by the Soulful Strings, the studio outfit led by innovative producer and arranger Richard Evans–are below.
