Welcome to All Up In MySpace, where we look at bands in the upper echelons of the buggy social-networking site’s unsigned bands chart. Today, we look at Mindless Self Indulgence, that chart’s current No. 7 act, and the band who some of you Internet old-timers may remember as the outfit that scored the above “Pokemon Bitches” clip, which was a viral video smash in the pre-YouTube days. (Guess what? It’s still kind of funny. We love it when Pikachu gets saucy!)

Name: Mindless Self Indulgence. Number of MySpace Friends: 256,402. Influences: Apparently, they don’t give enough of a fuck to properly fill out this section. How edgy! Sounds like: Synth-heavy rap metal with totally stoopid lyrics. Sample comment from a friend: “crazy fucking time in providence!!!!!!!Theres urine on my gf’s shirt! Oh wait thats just your sig. MWAHAHAHA LOVE YOU!” Can they be famous … off the Internet? Well, there’s that Pokemon video–oh, wait. Seriously, though, Mindless Self Indulgence have been kicking around for a very long time, cutting their first demo in 1997 and garnering a Spin writeup two years later. But their all-purpose offensiveness is tailor-made for those teenaged MySpace users who love using black backgrounds and bawdy animated GIFs. MSI recently achieved a bit of chart success, hitting No. 1 on the Billboard dance-singles sales chart with “Shut Me Up”; sure, it’s not the Hot 100, but this band’s lyrics aren’t exactly FCC-friendly.
