Welcome to All Up In MySpace, where we look at bands in the upper echelons of the buggy social-networking site’s unsigned bands chart.

Name: Lit. Number of MySpace Friends: 87,371. Influences: Capitalism: Their “sounds like” section is filled with come-ons to buy their album. Sounds like: Power-pop with 21st-century compression, and a touch of nu-metal angst. Sample comment from a friend:“You guys were made famous, I think, my Senior year of high school. I graduated in ’99 and loved you ever since. You’re great! Have a great day.” Can they be famous … off the Internet? If you’ve been to a karaoke outing in the last seven years, you’ve probably heard some drunk dude sing “My Own Worst Enemy,” the Lit song that starts off with the lyric “Can we forget about the things we said when I was drunk?” (Admit it–now that we’ve quoted it, it’s cycling around your brain.) The band fell on tough times (warning: contains heavy 9/11 allusions) after the 1999 success of “Enemy,” and its members have diversified into business ventures like The Slidebar Cafe. They still play one-off shows around the country, though, and their relative lack of output hasn’t stopped them from being firmly lodged in MySpace’s indie top 10 for months on end. We bet that having “My Own Worst Enemy” on their page, for all the regretful once-drunk guys out there, is probably helping their cause.
