West Coast electro-rap legend The Egyptian Lover invades the island of Manhattan this weekend for a show at Studio B in Greenpoint. The Idolator crew enjoys the electro as much as anyone, but your guest editor decided to a little more research on Mr. Lover. While the web seems to lack a definitive Egyptian Lover resource, his Wikipedia entry proved deeply informative. To pass the knowledge jewels on to you, the reader, here are five facts from it:

1. The Egyptian Lover started out as a D.J. in Los Angeles with Uncle Jam’s Army doing dances at the L.A. Sports Arena with over 10,000 party people.

2. The Egyptian Lover began recording around [Los Angeles, California) in [1983] as a member of the Radio Crew and later that year released “Dial-A-Freak” as part of Uncle Jamm’s Army (see [1983 in music]).

3. His LPs were much less popular than his singles, though 1984’s On the Nile was moderately successful.

4. The Egyptian Lover also established his own record company, Egyptian Empire Records, which included artists such as Rodney O & Joe Cooley.

5. The Egyptian Lover started touring for the first time in 2004 and is still doing the Europe Shows today.
