This New York Times story on the upcoming Video Music Awards (you may have heard us mention them once or twice) is mostly a rehash of everyone’s talking points from the last few months now (MTV’s slipping position as youth arbiter in the face of the big bad Internet, the fucked-up way they’re scheduling and presenting the show to compensate for its actually-kinda-shocking 28% ratings slump last year), but it is nice as a one-stop location that covers the entirety of MTV’s “we’re still down!” flailing in the face of MySpace, et al.
