Spoon Sets Off A Bomb In Studio 8H
Spoon’s first song on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, “The Underdog,” was torpedoed a bit by the Chronic Problem Bands Have On TV–namely, that the sound engineers couldn’t figure out how to mix the horn-augmented band so that it sounded good to the viewers at home, and not just the people in the studio–but Britt Daniel and company recovered nicely on the crunchy “You Got Yr Cherry Bomb.” If only they’d performed a third song; then the world could have been spared that superindulgent, straight-outta-college-comedy-night sketch where Andy Samberg borked it up as the Swedish Chef. (Dude, when you’re stealing your jokes from jokey versions of Google, it’s time to step back and re-evaluate. Just saying.)
