Ozzfest To Embark On A “Limited Run” After Free Edition’s Limited Success

Last year’s edition of the Ozzy Osbourne-helmed traveling metal circus Ozzfest, experimented with letting people in for free, and was subsequently plagued by underwhelming headliners who didn’t get paid for their time, lots of crowd unrest, and limited appearances by the man himself. All of which probably led to the amphitheaters where the shows were held only turning up half-full, thus denying the sponsors who bankrolled the fest their chance to reach the maximum number of eyeballs. So it’s time for some nipping and tucking!

According to a source tucked away at the bottom of a Billboard item on another metalfest, this year’s version is expected to go on a “limited run” as opposed to last year, when Ozzfest hit 25 cities. No word on whether or not this run will allow people to get in for free like last year, but given that Ozzy’s career as of late has been all about sputtering out instead of gracefully fading away, I’m sure that Sharon Osbourne will come up with some ridiculous ticket-bartering system (perhaps involving swapping second-season DVDs of The Osbournes and gently used copies of Kelly Osbourne’s solo album for admission to the show) that will at least keep the festival’s name in the press before its inevitable swan dive from the summer touring circuit.
