That Riches star/alt-country aspirant Minnie Driver could grab Ryan Adams and his Cardinals for her new album Seastories is no surprise. Liz Phair? Yeah, that’s pretty easy to picture. But when the NME announced that “members of Gnarls Barkley” would appear on the album, I was a little shocked. Isn’t that a little less-than-hip for Danger Mouse? Is Cee-Lo trying to break into the Triple-A market?

Turns out the Gnarls Barkley “member” is keyboardist Zack Ray. When I typed “zack ray gnarls barkley” into Google, the only thing that came up was Minnie Driver’s press release.

Hollywood star Minnie Driver has roped in Ryan Adams and members of Gnarls Barkley on her new album. The actress has also announced plans to play a one-off UK gig at the London Arts Theatre on May 12 next month to coincide with the release of her second album ‘Seastories’. Along with Adams and his backing band The Cardinals, the album also features the likes of Gnarls Barkley’s Zack Ray, Foo Fighters keyboardist Rami Jaffe, and Liz Phair. Minnie Driver began her professional career as a singer and songwriter in a band signed to Island Records in the UK in the early 1990s before embarking on a career as a successful actress.

Wikipedia only mentions Zack Ray as a keyboardist on Jane’s Addiction’s Strays (ooh, he was a member of Jane’s Addiction too!), and Google offers nothing else high-profile (unless the same guy played NCAA football). So did Mr. Ray tour with Gnarls or something? I hope he remembers to thank the Barkley boys for helping up his profile, at least in Minnie Driver’s (and the NME‘s) mind.
