Boy Bands Are Back And More Anonymous Than Ever

A recent article in Rolling Stone describes a recent wave of boy band signings at record labels, referring to groups like V Factory, Varsity Fanclub, and NLT. Said New Kid Joey McIntyre, “Obviously times are tough in the record business. They’re just thinkin’, ‘We gotta get right to the heart of it–and that’s young girls and cute boys and fun songs.'” And with Lou Pearlman in jail, who am I to disagree? NLT has been discussed on Idolator before, but who are V Factory are Varsity Fanclub? Wouldn’t you like to know.

Varsity Fanclub are David Lei Brandt (“Don’t give me a floor and mirrors; you won’t see me for a while”), Bobby Edner (“I danced in Alien Ant Farm’s ‘Smooth Criminal’ video”), Jayk Purdy (“obsessed with Sevens and Skull&Crossbones”), Drew Ryan Scott (“my ideal date is at a theme park. Just the whole magical experience of that”) and Thomas Fiss (“Something Corporate is my favorite band…but it all gives me insperation [sic]”). They have a song named “Future Love” and claim to be sexually interested in women.

V Factory are Asher Book (“got his big break at an open casting call for the theatrical production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast”), Wesley Quinn (“was bitten with the performing bug at age 6 after attending his younger sister’s dance recital”), Nick Teti (“got his start doing musical theater in high school then taught himself to dance while in college”), Nathaniel Flatt (“landed a major campaign with Target, as well as numerous print ads, music videos, and commercials for Sony, Heinz, and The Disney Channel”), and Jared Murillo (“You may know Jared from his appearances as a featured dancer in HSM”). They have a song named “Round And Round” and claim to be sexually interested in women.

Which one’s your favorite? As much as I like the name “V Factory,” I have to go with Varsity Fanclub, because Drew and Jayk aren’t fooling anybody.
