ARTIST: Pink TITLE “So What” WEB DEBUT: Aug. 7, 2008

ONE-LISTEN VERDICT: An opening lyric about her departed ex-husband, a declaration that she’s ready for a scrap, a “nyah nyah” cadence on the verses, and a chorus that… sounds like Nickelback’s “Rock Star”? The newest Max Martin-assisted single by Pink is certainly a mixed bag, with the blunt-object lyrics of her last album’s lead-off single, “Stupid Girls,” combining with the bludgeon-you-’til-you’re-dead “Rock & Roll Part 2” stomp that made Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” catnip for radio programmers. Whether or not these same programmers will be ready for another song that beats its listeners over the head until they’re dazed enough to sing along is up in the air–especially since this song doesn’t have the relative wit of “U & Ur Hand.”
