Mark Cuban’s high-definition cable channel HDNet is launching a concert series at Atlantic City’s House of Blues this fall; the shows will later be broadcast on the channel, which would seem like a good way to use the bandwidth afforded to HDTV (seriously, some of those concerts shown on Viacom’s music-only channel look so stunning, I forget about the music and just take in the scenery). But the “sneak peek” concert, which airs later this month, doesn’t exactly give me hope as far as future featured bands go: It’ll air a performance by Good Freakin’ Charlotte, a band that I like to think of as “the one semi-famous ‘rock band’ any producer with a not-quite-there Rolodex can wrangle.” I guess what they’ll lose in interested viewers, they’ll make up in paparazzi presence during the show’s taping, right?
