Clear Channel To Intern Who Leaked Britney Spears Snippet: “You’re Fired, Not That We Paid You Anyway”

The snippet of Britney Spears’ new single, “Womanizer,” that leaked late last week was apparently recorded off a conference call Jive Records held with radio programmers. (Which would explain the tinny quality.) That recording was made by a grunt worker at the Nashville pop station The River who’s “professionally” known as Intern Adam. Well, former grunt worker, anyway–the top entry on his blog is now a terse message that insinuates that Adam’s been fired: “For those stopping by to catch up on all the celebrity gossip and the Intern Adam vs. Britney Spears drama, don’t expect any posts from IA. He is not here. We are sorry to inform you he is not on the air with Woody & Jim In The Morning. No details will be given at this time, however we are sure you can fish around the internet gossip blogs to figure stuff out.” Or you can just read the “should Adam have been fired” comment section that the station has helpfully provided to listeners who need answers in this time of crisis.

First, let’s hear from the people who want Adam back, even though they don’t listen to the station that used to employ him:

ok i dont know if he should be fired it depends on how he got the song and how much it cost the station. he should have ask permission from the station before putting the clip up. and u morons blaming britney is stupid she didnt get on 1075 and see it her management did. and the river never plays britney songs so go listen to 1025 the party its gotten beter

Um… OK?

Next, a listener who asks, “Intern Adam isn’t the point of being an inter to learn?” and questions Clear Channel’s commitment to pedagogy:

I think that it would be dumb to fire him. We all make mistakes. From what I understand he didn’t release the whole song and part of his job is to leak gossip. So let him apologize and move on.

Now let’s hear from one person who may be living in fear of getting a knock on her door from the RIAA’s lawyers:

FIrst of all, how can we expect to take the industry’s plea’s of “PLEASE NO PIRACY’ when we have radio stations partaking in piracy? This has to be stopped and if Intern Adam is not fired, how can 107.5 rebound from this? Did you honestly think there were no consequences for piracy “INTERN ADAM”?

Another listener doesn’t care about the whole Britney thing, but is very concerned about Adam’s penchant for flagrant ass-revealing:

Adam always goes out of reach to show his ass. He walks around gay bar’s, straight bar’s,( Everyone knows he is gay and tries to hide it) thinking he is a celebrity. I think he is a bad representation of your station. He knows the laws and rules of what can be said on air and what can be posted on the web. This will be a big lesson for him and he needs to be fired and taught a lesson. He is not above anything like he thinks he is. Im going to believe that the General Manager of the station and also Clear Channel will make the most appropriate decision and get rid of him. He is not really a major part of the program and not really a big part of the show. You can only be a intern for so long and now is the time to bring in a new intern.

And finally, one listener is floating the idea that this is all a conspiracy, and that Adam is actually paid, and that he’ll be back on the air sooner than you can say “publicity stunt”:

Okay, I have read over this and I gotta say it! He is not an intern! I presonally know Adam and the “Intern” is the role that he plays on the radio station. He isnt a college kid interning at the radio station — he is a salaried employee at 107.5 just like Woody and Jim… So people, quit thinking that he is some dumb intern… he is a professional radio personality!

And I love Adam, and wish him the best… But this is major and I think that even the cute, funny Adam is going to have a hard time getting himself out of this one…

Dude, you knew better. Having your name on TMZ and Perez Hilton is not the most important thing in life.. you need to think about paying that mortgage. Best Wishes, IA.

What is that? Reason and a bit of skepticism toward tabloid culture in an anonymous online message board? Maybe we are living in the end times…
