Coldplay were the big winners at today’s Q Awards, presented in London to an audience that supped from ham hock terrine, Barolo-braised rump of lamb, and mango-raspberry trifle, as well as “an endless flow” of the vodka sponsoring the whole affair. Perhaps that dinner could be seen of as something of a last hurrah for an ever-imploding planet, or maybe the folks at Britain’s dad-rock digest were merely hoping that said ever-spewing vodka would bring a moment of clarity in which the difference between the “Q Icon,” “Q Idol,” “Q Innovation In Sound,” “Q Inspiration,” and “Q Legend” awards would finally be realized. I’m sober right now, and I certainly can’t figure it out. Full list of winners–plus some choice commentary on the music of Meat Loaf, which was sadly not on the menu in honor of the portly singer winning the “Classic Song” award for “Bat Out Of Hell”–after the jump.
