A New York Post source snipes on Jermaine Dupri’s exit from Island Def Jam, where he served as president of urban music until earlier this week: “After [his girlfriend] Janet Jackson’s album and tour bombed, he basically didn’t come back to work. He still collected a paycheck, but didn’t bother to do anything that he was supposed to do, like find artists, release records or actually show up. Executives tried to talk to him, but he just lost heart.” This source also places the suckiness of Jackson’s 2008 album Discipline on his shoulders, claiming that he allowed his paramour a little too much creative freedom in lieu of trying to make the songs halfway listenable.
