What Is Your Favorite Song About A Food Or A Beverage?

The question’s pretty simple, although to make things a little bit tougher, let’s say that the songs in question have to be about food, and not sexual metaphors for food. To get the inspirational juices (haha, get it?) flowing, here is “Eat It,” which is, of course, merely one of “Weird Al” Yankovic’s many songs devoted to gastronomy. After the jump, I survey many people for their thoughts, and post my favorite food-related disco jam:

A tragedy! And now, a few picks from some pals: Christopher R. Weingarten, who gave me this idea: “Food,” Buck 65
Kate Richardson, fanfiction spelunker: “Sangria Wine,” Jerry Jeff Walker. (As a bonus, this video is instructional!)
Marah Eakin, publicist / Cavs fan: “Know Your Chicken,” Cibo Matto.
“Birthday Cake” works, too:
And more, from replies to a Twitter query I put out: @gimmeshetler: “Mother Popcorn” by James Brown, “Beans And Cornbread” by Louis Jordan, “Soul Food” by Goodie Mob @briannaorg: “Savoy Truffle” by The Beatles, “Candy Shop” by Andrew Bird, “Orange Crush” by R.E.M. @tomewing: “Eat Yrself Fitter” by The Fall, “Breakfast” by The Associates, “C is for Cookie” by Cookie Monster @popcesspool: “Der Weinerschnitzel” and “I Like Food,” The Descendents @jezebelhortense: Savoy Truffle by the Beatles, Lollipop by the Chordettes, and Sugar, Sugar by the Archies. There were also a lot of “Weird Al” mentions, of course. And more are coming in here, if you need inspiration! Also, I know that the rules stated that the songs had to be about food and not food-sex metaphors, but it will kill me if I don’t post “Apple Pie” by White Trash before this weekend was over. Hey, rules were made to be broken, right?
