“Zombieland” Gives Item-Desperate Blogger An Excellent Reason To Post Two Really Awesome Songs

I’m quite looking forward to Zombieland, the (89% fresh!) Woody Harrelson-starring flick about a forthcoming zombie apocalypse that opens today. Why a post about a movie that doesn’t even have an official soundtrack out yet? Well, the man who directed Zombieland, Ruben Fleisher, has a music-video connection; early in his career, he was behind the camera for a bunch of videos by the likes of the Dismemberment Plan and Kid Sister, as well as two clips attached to fairly big singles of the oughts. Peep the videos for two of my favorite tracks of the decade (NB: they ranked No. 34 and No. 110, respectively, on Pitchfork’s big list) after the jump. (What better way to start off a Friday morning, etc.) M.I.A., “Galang”

Dizzee Rascal, “Fix Up Look Sharp”

(This would also be a good time to note that I’ve been trying to write about Dizzee’s new album Tongue N’ Cheek, which came out in the UK last week, for a couple of days now, but its beats are so crazy that they make me feel intoxicated about three songs in. I saw him play last week in Dublin and he was fantastic, even if he didn’t do his music-criterati breakthrough “I Luv U.” Here is one of the singles from his new album, the Armand Van Helden-assisted “Bonkers,” which went to No. 1 on the singles chart across the pond:

See what I mean about the beats? Maybe it’s because I’m listening to it on headphones. ) Ruben Fleisher [Official site] M.I.A. – Galang [Dailymotion] Dizzee Rascal – Fix Up, Look Sharp [Dailymotion]
