Whatcha Say About Jason Derulo’s New Song ‘In My Head’?

How does Jason Derulo follow up his J.R. Rotem-produced debut single “Whatcha Say,” the monster that bumped Owl City’s “Fireflies” off the top of the Billboard Hot 100? By hooking up with Rotem again for the (slightly) more up-tempo, (slightly) rock-infused “In My Head.”

Derulo’s new single appeared on the 20-year-old singer’s MySpace. How does he fare without the use of a ubiquitous Imogen Heap sample?

“In My Head,” of course, isn’t to be confused with Iyaz’ current hit “Replay,” which contains the refrain “Shawty’s like a melody in my head.” That one, by sheer and complete coincidence, was produced by J.R. Rotem and co-written by Jason Derulo.

“For eight months J.R. and I literally locked ourselves in the studio, wrote and recorded,” Derulo says in his MySpace bio. “Our aim was to not be influenced by trends, and make sure that our art was coming from a true place.”

Wonder what “true place” that hot-and-heavy breathing at about a minute into “In My Head” comes from, then?
