Lil Wayne Hits Up ‘The Mo’Nique Show’ As ‘Rebirth’ Leaks

Lil Wayne surely planned to visit BET’s The Mo’Nique Show for a straightforward chat to promote the upcoming release of his Young Money label’s artist compilation, We Are Young Money. But as he’s learning, even with something as basic as a CD release, A Milli things can go wrong. Wayne appeared on the show even as leaked copies of his long-awaited Rebirth zipped across the Web (and generated some tough early reviews). Oh well. At least he also got to suffer the embarrassment of sitting through Mo’Nique’s impromptu audition for his label.

As recently as last month, the Young Money collection was expected to be packaged with Weezy’s own eventual LP. But those plans may well be out the window thanks to the Amazon shipping error that resulted in Rebirth winding up in hundreds of fans’ hands at least six weeks before it was supposed to.

Naturally, the full album is all over the Internet now. Weezy made nary a mention of the snafu while talking to Mo’Nique—but his remarks about wanting to feel “powerful” resonated with us. How powerless he must feel right now, with his most experimental record leaked early, and a potential prison term for that felony gun charge still on the horizon.
