Alanis Morissette: The Only Star We Trust To Actually Write A Book

Apparently done for the time being with haphazardly matching her rambling poetry to Indian-infused music, Alanis Morissette is writing a book. Something tells us we don’t have to worry about the introspective pop star utilizing a ghostwriter, as can often happen with certain other celebrity-“written” books.

According to Spinner, spiritual singer Morissette’s non-fiction tome won’t be a straight-up autobiography, but a collection of essays, anecdotes and thoughts.

Says Alanis:

“It’s really turned out to be a very philosophical, non-precious, photograph, travelogue, essays — a little ADD,” Morissette tells Spinner. “It’s all over the place, but there’s a linear pathway throughout it all. It’s kind of my fantasy book, the kind of book I wish I could read all the time from other people.”

She’s not the first pop phenom to become an author of philosophy—Kanye West penned and self-published Thank You And You’re Welcome, a mini coffee table book filled with Kanye-isms. We’re assuming Alanis’ output will be more the type you keep in your back pocket as you safari alone through Africa.

As to why she’s writing a book in the first place? “To share anything I can that might help people skip over some tough experiences, kind of becoming the sister that I never had for other people.”

We’d love it if Alanis was our sister, mostly because she probably would be willing to generously share her stash.

Morissette clearly has the experience to dole out some advice—in 35 years, she’s travelled throughout India, been engaged, been dumped, starred in various television shows and movies, not to mention wrote and recorded one of the best-selling albums of all-time by the age of 21 (which was  so popular, she recorded an acoustic version of it ten years later). And what have you done with your life?
