Solo Women Set A ‘Billboard’ Chart Record

It appears there’s further news to the fact that Susan Boyle racked up sales of over three million units of I Dreamed A Dream. While Boyle’s debut has handily locked down the #1 position on Billboard‘s Top 200 Albums tally for the past weeks, this week’s chart marks the first time the Top 5 positions have all been held by female solo artists, notes Paul Grein of Yahoo’s Chart Watch music blog.

Here’s how things panned out on Billboard‘s latest main album roundup:

1. Susan Boyle, I Dreamed A Dream 2. Lady Gaga, The Fame 3. Alica Keys, The Element Of Freedom 4. Mary J. Blige, Stronger With Each Tear 5. Taylor Swift, Fearless

Grein reports that this now breaks the record set the week of April 21, 1990, when female solo artists occupied the #1 – #4 positions (Bonnie Raitt, Sinead O’Connor, Janet Jackson and Paula Abdul, respectively).

In a perfect world, Ke$ha would hop in there next week and bump the record up to six positions held by female solo artists. Then again, judging by Gags’ comment here, some folks might have trouble with “Ke$ha” and “perfect world” appearing in the same sentence.
