Savvy Gleeks weren’t exactly holding their breath over whether their favorite show (that’d be Glee) would be picked up for a second season — after all, it’s one of the highest rated shows on Fox and a four time Golden Globe nominee. (And a music marketer’s dream with the endless soundtrack series). Still, we burst into song when we heard that Fox announced (early, in fact) that the musical comedy would be returning. But before we even get to the second season, you need to hear our body talk about the pop legend who will guest star on the second half of the first season. Yes, it’s…

Olivia Newton-John. E! Online’s Watch with Kristin spoke with Jane Lynch, who was over the moon about sharing screen-time (and a song!) with the pop phenom. Squeals Lynch in delight:

“I’m so excited I can’t see straight! [Olivia] provided the soundtrack for my tortured adolescence. Her charitable work and commitment to making others’ lives and the life of the planet better is so inspiring.”

Newton-John will be singing a duet of her 1982 hit “Let’s Get Physical” with Sue Sylvester. We. Cannot. Wait. It will be a high point for tracksuits and exercise-wear, we can tell you that much. All you Gleeks know, however, that Olivia Newton John previously appeared on the show in the form of Lea Michele doing her best impression of Sandy from Grease:

Hot.

The ecstatic cast, including Cory Monteith, Lea Michele and Dianna Agron celebrated the news at the InStyle and 20th Century Fox Golden Globe Celebration at the Sunset Tower in West Hollywood this past weekend. We’re as happy as you guys are! Everyone toast your purple slushies!

If you consider yourself a real Gleek (who can actually belt one out), the show’s producers are also having open auditions for three new roles that will be introduced in Season 2. The auditions will be aired as a multi-part special before the S2 premiere in September. So in case Randy, Kara, Simon and Paula Ellen thought you were too pitchy, dawg, you’ve got yet another shot of landing on Fox singing your heart out. Submit your vid on the show’s website, and check out the current cast’s audition clips.
