When last we heard from up-and-coming British chanteuse Ellie Goulding, she was chirping away on a completely stripped down, lovely cover of Robyn’s “Be Mine!” with Erik Hassle. But now that the 23-year-old is in full promo swing for the March 1 release of her album Lights, the video for her new single “Starry Eyed” has finally surfaced.

Like Manchester duo Hurts, Goulding was singled out by the BBC in its recent Sound Of 2010 series. In fact, she came in first among all the other artists featured!

“I sing often about love and heartbreak, not just my own but other peoples’ stories,” Ellie told the Beeb. “I’m fascinated by tales. Also, like in Guns & Horses, I talk about something modern which is someone being at a computer all the time. So I take on traditional subjects and also dark things like how technology can ruin things and the emptiness of some relationships.”

Here’s one of her tales, “Starry Eyed”:

The dreamy electronic track was produced by Goulding’s pal Starsmith (aka Finlay Dow-Smith), who’s also done remixes for Lady Gaga and Paloma Faith.

And even before her debut album Lights is released, Ellie’s already got a leg up over U.K. chart behemoth Susan Boyle—next month she’ll pick up the Critics Choice Award at the 2010 Brit Awards.
