American Idol alum Ayla Brown recently unleashed the video for her new single “Pick It Up,” and it’s quite the, let’s say, DIY affair. (Think Heidi Montag’s “Higher,” sans the pink bikini and shoddy dance moves.) But what’s really making our skin crawl about this ballad from Massachusetts senator Scott Brown’s daughter isn’t the by-the-numbers tune itself, but rather the creepy imagery and editing used in the video.

The jarring black and white clip opens on what appears to be some kind of pagan ritual, with candles placed in an ominous formation and Ayla scrawling symbols in dust on a table.

Next we see the Season 5 Idol contestant sitting on the floor in front of a blackened fireplace. We’re not sure what dark forces are at hand here, but all that’s missing is for either the Blair Witch or that waterlogged broad from The Ring to come crawling down the chimney.

“Pick It Up” was co-written by Australian singer Nathan Leigh Jones and Ayla’s fellow Season 5 Idol co-star Will Makar.
