The Morning Mix: Jay-Z Is More Than Happy To Be Left Out Of “We Are The World”

The Westminster dog show kicked off last night, and we only wish that Ashley Tisdale’s adorable Maltipoo, Maui, could compete in the dog show. Seriously, that pooch could smack the frown off of Simon Cowell’s grumpy face. Ah, there’s nothing like waking up to a too-cute picture of a puppy, is there? But now, let’s mix it up:

Did You Hear?

:: Jay-Z wanted no part of the “We Are The World” remake, calling the original “untouchable.” Can he pen a sequel to “Death to Auto-Tune” called “Death to Charity Singles”? [MTV]

:: Is Selena Gomez getting stiffed? The Wizards of Waverly Place actress reportedly earns the same paycheck per episode as each “cast member” of Jersey Shore, despite the fact Selena actually acts — while Snooki, The Situation & Co. terrorize pop culture without any rehearsal. [Ocean Up]

:: Madonna will guest judge on Jerry Seinfeld’s “The Marriage Ref” reality show, choosing sides in domestic arguments. Too bad this show didn’t exist when she was still living with Guy Ritchie. Those two really could have worked things out! [Vulture]

:: Carrie Underwood is a surfer chick on the set of her movie Soul Surfer. And if riding the waves is like everything else the country star attempts, she’s probably perfect at it. [Just Jared]

:: Erykah Badu and Lil Wayne attempt to out-weird one another in the video for their collaboration, “Jump Up In The Air And Stay There,” a bonus track on Badu’s fifth studio album. [Rap-Up]

After the jump: We get “Funky” for New York Fashion Week.

Music On TV Tonight: :: Late Show with David Letterman (CBS) – Mary J. Blige :: Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC) – Sade

VIDEO REWIND OF THE DAY: In honor of New York’s Fashion Week, here’s the most fashion-forward video to burst out of the early 90s: George Michael’s Graduate-sampling “Too Funky.” The style on hand in this runway-centered vid was so head of its time, Lady Gaga recently paid homage to one of the outfits in her “Paparazzi” video, and the silver, steel one-piece (at 2:15 below and at 3:40 in Gaga’s vid) still seemed like it was pulled from the future.

Have a great day!
