The Morning Mix: Justin Timberlake Makes A Fashion Statement

Good morning, folks! Justin Timberlake and his longtime pal and business partner Trace Ayala (above) “classed up” their William Rast line’s appearance at Fashion Week this year, keeping last night’s runway show relatively celebutante-free while hiring bluesy band Free Sol to add falvor. We love JT’s threads, we just wish he would re-direct some of the energy he puts into his fashion line into recording a new album already. It’s been almost four years since FutureSex/LoveSounds, buddy! Get on it! Everybody else, let’s mix it up!

Did You Hear?

:: Check out the official cover art for Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’s “Telephone” remix album. Now where can we get a rotary telephone hat? [Just Jared]

:: Akon wasn’t exactly starved for cash before, but the dough he’s earning for his role in Lady Gaga’s career will allow him to retire. [Huffington Post]

:: Britney Spears’ latest batch of Candie’s ads has arrived. She looks great, but we’re just happy she’s wearing shoes. [E! Online]

:: 3OH!3’s third studio album will be called Streets of Gold, and the snarky duo has already written 25 new songs. Let’s hope they took some poetry classes since authoring the deeply obnoxious Almost Alice track “Follow Me.” [EW]

:: Toni Braxton is collaborating with comedian, talk show host and Oscar nominee Mo’Nique for her next album, Pulse. Take that, Meryl Streep. [Rap-Up]

After the jump: we provide proof that Justin Timberlake wasn’t always the fashionable man he is today.

Music On TV Tonight: :: Late Show with David Letterman (CBS) – Daniel Merriweather :: Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC) – Robin Thicke

VIDEO REWIND OF THE DAY: Justin Timberlake is known for being one fashionable man — last year, GQ even named him one of the Most Stylish Men in America. But JT has suffered his share of style slip-ups over the years: Remember the cornrows? The bleached curls and goatee? And dear lord, that infamous denim suit with matching hat (and girlfriend)? We almost can’t believe this is the same man with a fashion line so successful it can branch into footwear.

Take a peek back at a platinum blond, babyfaced 17-year old Justin (looking almost like a young Eminem) sporting a giant hoop earring, a close-cropped haircut and a puffy windbreaker in ‘N Sync’s first video, “I Want You Back.” (To be fair, it was 1998, and his very life was being run by this guy.)

Have a great day!
