Canada’s closing ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics featured tons of top-notch Canadian musical talent—Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, Avril Lavigne and, er… Nickelback. (What, was the pickle busy?)

Check out a recap of all the performances here, and take the jump to hear Avril sing her hits “Happy Ending” and “Girlfriend” while wearing a sizzling red dress that makes her look more mature than ever before. Going through a divorce sure makes you grow up fast, doesn’t it?

Avril Lavigne – “Happy Ending” (2010 Winter Olympics closing ceremony)

Avril’s energy seems a bit low, which could be blamed on her high heels and tight dress prohibiting her from bouncing all over the stage. (Looks like she quickly gave up the goth-prom look from her “Alice” vid, although her screechiness didn’t go anywhere.) Despite her shouting a few notes, we think Lavigne pulls off both songs, proving its better to suffer through a few off-key moments than lip-sync an entire performance.

No one’s going to win a gold medal for song choice here. Did the Olympics organizers just look at song titles? “Happy Ending” might suggest a lovely parting sentiment, given the amount of gold Canada picked up during the games. But if you listen to Avril’s lyrics—”You were everything that I wanted/we were meant to be, supposed to be but we lost it… so much for my happy ending”—it doesn’t exactly fit with the joyful theme, does it?

And we guess she didn’t want to change the chorus to “Girlfriend” to “Hey, hey, you, you, I don’t like your curling team” to match the vibe, huh? Okay, we can’t blame her on that one.
