Watch Estelle “Freak” Out In Her New Video

Last week’s behind-the-scenes clip of Estelle’s “Freak” only gave a small peak into the intergalactic craziness of the actual music video—not to mention the song itself. The tune is a minimalistic dance track in a somewhat similar vein as Kelis’ “Acapella.” And major props to the British Grammy winner for interpolating Soul II Soul’s 1989 classic “Back To Life”! (Ah, memories…) As for the video, well—hop into your space shuttle and blast off into Estelle’s cosmic, kinky world after the jump!

Amidst the array of wigs, vinyl gloves, gold handcuffs and lip glitter in the Nabil Elderkin-directed video, Estelle also appears to be paying homage to “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)”-era Missy Elliott with the plastic bag garb and overall aesthetic.

In other words: Estelle + Soul II Soul x Missy Elliott = Supa-“Freak”

And that formula is always going to result in a thumbs up. Check out more of Elderkin’s freakiness in the video he shot for Kanye West’s “Coldest Winter.”
