We know the 2010 Winter Olympics are so last week, but we just received this neat lil’ video postcard in the mail from OneRepublic, who were nice enough to take a brief break from prancing around Vancouver and performing for the masses to answer a few questions while warming themselves up by the fire. Jump below to check out Ryan Tedder and his mates as they talk about the recording of Waking Up and weigh in on Glee, Shaun White and going for the gold:

Music critics have praised the band for venturing past the safety of the pop-rock conventions from their debut, Dreaming Out Loud, which of course included the monster hit “Apologize.” On the new Waking Up, the band internalized “a lot of the things that made [“Apologize” collaborator] Timbaland such a compelling producer — that good sounds are paramount, songs should move in odd directions and many different ideas can constitute a hook.” But the the biggest musical experiment that Ryan and the gang attempted this time around, the band tells us, was “recording it in a house. Usually you do albums in a recording studio that is designed for sound. But we just used the different rooms and wood carpet and everything else the house had to record all the live instruments.”

Tedder also mentions that, contrary to belief, he did not write a song for Glee, but last time we spoke with him one-on-one, he confirmed, “I’m gonna be doing at least one song for the next season that’s original.” We’re just crossing our fingers Tedder’s tune doesn’t require Matthew Morrison to rap ever again.
