Michael Jackson Lands $250 Million Recording Deal

Michael Jackson accomplished so much during his life, it’s no wonder he continues to be one of the most successful artists in history without having to do a damn thing. The late King of Pop’s estate has just signed a contract with Sony Music Entertainment potentially worth up to $250 million, the biggest recording deal in history.

The record-breaking deal stipulates that 10 projects will be released over the next seven years. The two-disc album that accompanied This Is It counts as one of the 10, and the other nine projects may include an album of never-before-released Jackson recordings (to come out November 2010), a DVD compilation of videos and a re-release of 1979’s Off The Wall. Sony will have access to Jackson’s entire back catalog, which means we could be hearing MJ tunes in movies, on TV, during commercials and in stage shows til pretty much the end of eternity.

Anyone upset by that? We’re guessing not. You find us one person who doesn’t have a smile on their face as soon as they hear the opening notes to “Billie Jean” or who doesn’t immediately start dancing the moment they hear “Thriller.” The one thing we are worried about is Michael Jackson one day appearing on our TV sets selling us a vacuum. So let’s not abuse this power and go crazy with all these new songs and images to play with, okay, Sony?
