Folks, Train—who haven’t had a Top 10 hit since “Drops Of Jupiter” wriggled its way to becoming a radio mainstay in 2001—are probably just as surprised as you are to find their latest single, the Jason Mraz-esque “Hey Soul Sister,” lodged at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. (It’s also the top download on iTunes.) Cut to the San Francisco band getting sweet gigs like The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, where last night they proved that amidst all the Ludas and the Gagas, there clearly is still a market for schmaltzy lite FM pop-rock sung by dudes with bad ’90s hair. Marvel below!

And, really, we’re not being dismissive of “Hey Soul Sister”—because when it comes on the sound system like clockwork each day at the local Chinese joint down the street each day, you can literally count the feet tapping around under the tables.

The power of Train is a mysterious yet strong force, indeed.
