John Mayer Steers Clear Of Controversy With His Dull “Heartbreak Warfare” Video

John Mayer has been flying under the radar since virtually torpedoing his career with a racy (not to mention somewhat racist) interview with Playboy a couple months back. And these days, this is about as edgy as his tweets get: “I’m such a bad DJ, my song transitions could be used as a weapon in war to disorient the enemy.” So cut to his new music video for “Heartbreak Warfare” (watch below). It’s a somewhat boring black and white live clip that just focuses on Mayer playing music—imagine that!

There’s not really much you can say about this four-and-a-half minutes of dullsville except that we were kind of hoping that, given the title, there’d be at least one more reference to Jessica Simpson being sexual napalm. But of course, those shenanigans of yore are not likely to happen anytime soon.

“I quit. I quit the soundbite game. I quite the media game,” Mayer said tearfully from Nashville’s Sommet Center in February, following the Playboy debacle. “I’m out. I’m done. I just want to play my guitar to whoever’s around.”

And as for Twitter, yesterday he wrote, “Ladies and gentlemen, I’m OUT. Tweet you in 2 weeks. XO JM.”

Wait—two weeks with John Mayer not using a social media platform? He really is a changed man.
