Kelis Shines On ‘Flesh Tone’ Album Cover

Behold the cover of Kelis’ forthcoming Flesh Tone. It’s a little futuristic, a little Grace Jones (ok, a lot Grace Jones), and comes with a hint of Gandalf (dig that gorgeous gray braid). The cover art was shot by the stylish photographer John “Rankin” Waddell”, who previously transformed Kelis into a sultry huntress for the trippy “Acapella” video. It’s almost like a mashup of two previous covers: she took the sleek vibe of her Kelis Was Here artwork and tweaked it with the wild spirit of Kaleidoscope. Well done.

Just asking: is the Flesh Tone cover not what Ciara’s Fantasy Ride cover should’ve been? (Sorry, still bitter.)

Either way, this is a strong statement by Kelis. Flesh Tone is due July 6, with production from Grammy-winning Italian electro whiz Benny Benassi, Grammy-winning French DJ David Guetta, will.i.am pal Free School and up-and-coming electro stars Boys Noize. Hear what Kelis has to say about it all in our recent interview.
