Snoop Dogg And Kid Cudi Play Lumberjack In “That Tree” Video

Twenty years into his music career, Snoop is a superstar with two cares in this world, according to new track “That Tree”. One is his family. The other? It’s a sticky green substance he uses to relax — and it’s the reason you need to bring your own breathing apparatus if you attend one of his shows. You know what we mean? Thought so. In honor of his favorite herb, Snoop — and a chainsaw-wielding Kid Cudi — venture into a cartoonish 2-D forest for “That Tree”, his latest video. Pass this post to the left and watch the two rap stars and a pair of smokin’ companions light it up below:

Pretty much anytime you see Kid Cudi in a car, you’re watching a terrifically creative video. That’s obviously not the only reason Snoop selected him as his partner in this Diplo-produced track: Cudi is (like Snoop) something of a weed connoisseur. As SPIN points out, the rappers are clad in costumes that recall stoner icons Cheech and Chong and their film Up In Smoke, though that reference may fly past both Snoop’s and Cudi’s younger fans.

Directed by Erick Peyton, the video earns high marks for capturing a rare sight: an affable Snoop Dogg, dancing(!). Yes, he’s usually laid-back, but he still often brings a certain aggression to his music and imagey. This is just good-natured fun, and it’s about time. Hey, you’d be happy too if you could take time out every now and again to climb, uh, trees.
