PHOTOS: Madonna Plays Pirate In ‘Interview’ Photo Shoot

Madonna’s intimate chat with filmmaker Gus Van Sant (who, coincidentally, directed Madonna’s ex-husband Sean Penn in 2008’s Milk) in the latest Interview is pretty interesting, but nowhere near as captivating as the pop queen’s photo shoot for the mag. Shot by photography duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Madonna treads very familiar territory (black lingerie, lacy gloves, loads of leather, crucifixes, not to mention tons of Photoshop) but still manages to exude the unapologetic attitude and power that made us (and Glee) adore her in the first place. Go to Interview’s site or pick up the mag to read her sit-down with Van Sant (in which she discusses visiting Malawi, writing and directing her next film, and attempting to “reinvent the wheel” the next time she releases a new album). But for now, flip through our gallery of the 51-year old (!!!) living legend’s racey—what did you expect?—photo shoot.
