Lady Gaga Debuts New Song “You And I,” Sounds Like Elton Meets 4 Non Blondes

Maybe we just have 4 Non Blondes on the brain after Crystal Bowersox gave a stand-up performance of “What’s Up” last week on the Tonight Show, but Lady Gaga’s new song “You And I” seems to bear more than a little resemblance to the San Francisco band’s 1993 hit. It also sounds like old-school Elton John (not to mention Gaga’s own Fame Monster tune “Speechless”), so it makes sense that Rolling Stone‘s current cover girl chose to debut the rock ballad at Sir Elt’s 12th Annual White Tie and Tiara benefit ball last week. Watch below!

“This is a brand new record that no one’s ever heard before,” said Gaga before she performed “You And I.” “It’s a bit of a rock and roll tune which means it most likely will never get used as one of my singles.”

Now, we’re not looking for yet another person to start a beef with Lady Gaga, but it would be interesting to hear Linda Perry sound off about the melody of those verses. There’s no word yet on whether “You And I” will appear on Lady Gaga’s third album, which is due out in 2011.

Are you digging “You And I”?
