Katy Perry Takes It Down A Notch For The Ballad “Not Like The Movies”

Katy Perry’s melancholy ballad “Not Like The Movies” was released on iTunes today—will this be her third official single from Teenage Dream instead of the poppy “Peacock”? Or is this just to freshen your palate from Perry’s dance tracks and to remind the public that the woman has more talent than simply getting sand in her stilettos while donning cupcake tassels? Listen to the track below.

“I didn’t feel the fairytale feeling, no / Am I a stupid girl for even dreaming that I could?” sings Perry. “If it’s not like the movies that’s how it should be, yeah… cinematic and dramatic with that perfect ending.”

It’s a dab more sorrowful than the one ballad she released as a single from One Of The Boys, the yearning “Thinking Of You.” It’s beautiful and sad and another excellent song in the Katy Perry songbook. Well done, lady. Keep ’em comin’!

And if Perry ever needs a pick-me-up after performing such a depressing song, she can always take a peek at her own Rolling Stone cover, which seems to get most people perked up.
